Interview with Simon Rudd

Simon Rudd has just rung his 1000th handbell quarter in Ringing Room.

Where are you based?

Norfolk

When and where did you learn to ring handbells?

My first real handbell ringing was during David Sparling’s time at Imperial College, when we rang a couple of times with Roger Bailey in his office.

Who has influenced your handbell ringing?

Roger Bailey, David Brown, Gareth Davies & Lesley Boyle

Blue lines, place notation or structure?

A mixture of the three

Trebles or tenors?

Tenors

Quarters or peals?

Both

What is the most unusual place in which you have rung handbells?

Rung a quarter in an aircraft and a peal on a pill-box

What is your favourite handbell-ringing anecdote?

Ringing 6 quarters in 6 countries over a wintry weekend and missing the ferry back in order to get to work on time on a Monday morning. UK, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France - and one on the ferry!

Any further comments about handbell ringing in general?

The advent of online ringing has been a tremendous benefit to my handbell ringing and enabled me to ring regularly with my longest standing friends and new friends alike.
