Progress report

It's a shockingly long time since I last wrote anything, so here's a quick update.

We've been continuing with the Sunday afternoon band, working up to touches of Bob Minor with some detours into Double Bob and Reverse Bob. We've realised that another useful diagram that isn't in the book is the work of 5-6 in the "wrong and home twice" touch of Bob Minor. Something to consider for a second edition.

The surprise royal project also continues. We're still working on Remus, but now with some variations in the pairs that we're ringing. It's gradually getting easier.

We rang a quarter of Bristol Major with Angela on 5-6, which was a new pair for her. Peter conducted the first attempt, which we didn't quite get, and then I conducted it the next week because he wasn't available. He had been calling this composition, so I stuck with it:

1280 Bristol Surprise Major

W H 23456

1 1 45236
2 2 32546

2 part.

The coursing orders in the main part of each course, between the home and the wrong, are, in sequence, 53246, 35426, 42356 and 24563. They are all on my list of 31 friendly coursing orders, musical and easy to remember. Interestingly, starting from the first course end (that is, calling 2 2 1 1 repeated, instead of 1 1 2 2 repeated) produces the same coursing orders, just in a different sequence.

We're going to ring it again on Monday, so Tina can have a go at conducting, partly in preparation for conducting a tower bell peal of Bristol later in the week.

Finally, we had a visit from Nick this week and we took advantage of it to ring some Cambridge Maximus. We still don't feel ready to ring a peal in a satisfying style, so we rang a half peal with a calling that gives everyone the same positions that they will get in a peal:

2640 Cambridge Surprise Maximus

5-6 ring the 5-6 and 3-4 positions, and 3-4 ring the 3-4 and coursing positions.
